Eric Hughes has been playing on Beale Street and around Memphis for over 10 years. He is the consummate performer and his band contains some of the tightest musicians in the Memphis area. We talked to Eric about his beginnings, his founding the Memphis Blues Society in 2005 and his feelings on the local scene.

Earlier in the day the Reba Russell Band's latest 8 reached the #1 spot on the XM Radio BB King Bluesville. Additionally, the day before Reba had published an open letter she sent to the Memphis Mayor's Council on Beale Street, which has been charged with looking at expanding the district and dealing with other underlying issues. This turned into the longest interview yet on MOTC. And I still had a number of subjects I wanted to explore.
