OMAR KENT DYKES
Omar Kent Dykes hails from McComb, Miss. , a town with the distinction of being home turf for Bo Didley. Omar started playing guitar at seven, took to hanging out in edge-of-town juke joints at 12 and joined his first band at 13. He and his band Omar & The Howlers have been spreading their musical word since. I was honored to have Omar come and sit on The Couch to discuss his career and his newest release Essential Collection - Omar & The Howlers. Omar told great stories and discussed his love of making music even after 50 years.
JP BLUES - Segment Begins At The 48:17 Mark
JP started playing guitar at the age of 8 and by age 10 it was clear that something special was happening here. This "Something Special" was recognized by legendary bluesman Sam "Bluzman" Taylor. Sam took JP under his wing and began to what Sam use to call "SAMerizing" him. The JP Blues Band has a new album, I Will Not Go Quietly and it has spent 20 weeks on the RMR National Blues Charts. I sat with JP and we discussed his career and how the blues became part of his world early on. Though in Atlanta now, the callers let us know that JP is still loved on Long Island.
SHOW # 98 - 02/20/12

JAMES ARMSTRONG
James Armstrongwas on the road touring by the time he was 17. He has had his music placed in movies, was seriously injured in a home invasion during which his young son was also injured. His third album earned him 2 Handy Award (Blues Music Award) Nominations and then he did not record for 11 years. Now, his new album Blues At The Border is putting him square back in the Blues Music World. I spent time speaking with James about his remarkable life and the music he is making today
ROY TREVINO - Segment Begins At The 56:00 Mark
Roy Treviño grew up in South Texas with a world of music surrounding him at home. His love of many different genres of music was borne out of that home. During our talk Roy discusses the first time he met Sean Costello at a music camp led by the legendary Ronnie Earl, he lists his influences (this is one loooong list!) and he opens up to his writing style and his feelings about his guitars. Roy also mentions the one thing he needs for his career right now...and you, the fans might be able to assist him. We also listen to music from his self-titled debut album.
