MURALI CORYELL
Murali Coryell was inducted into the New York State Blues Hall Of Fame in 2013 and was a 2014 BMA Nominee. He is a triple threat contemporary blues artist who can sing, write and play guitar. His new album is entitled Restless Mind is a collection 11 originals and 1 cover.
Murali and I discussed growing up with his talented parents, his music and where he is heading in the future.

EG Kight’s musical style transcends musical boundaries and has been called “country-flavored southern-fried blues”. With a blend of americana, southern rock, blues, pop, jazz, gospel and funk, she is helping to shape contemporary blues. Her her latest album, A New Day, is to be released on September 16th, and tonight she came and talked about her life, career, and events that transpired that brought this album forth.

Ernie Southern started his career in his teens as a New York "street corner" singer with well known Do-Wop acapella group Nick & The Knacks. He found the blues during his time in the US Navy and then performed in rock bands before beginning to share the blues as a solo artist. Ernie joined me to talk about his journey to where he is today in and we listened to tunes from throughout his career including an song from his unreleased album.

JENN OCKEN - BLUES ON BEALE STREET
Jenn Ocken stopped by to talk about Blues On Beale Street: Memoirs of the International Blues Challenge, a photo book accompanied by a series of written experiences, short stories, song lyrics, and quotes by the vast variety of attendees of the International Blues Challenge, expressing their personal experiences while attending and competing at the event. She and Greg "Slim Lively" Johnson have worked together on this project and Jen told us how it got started and how you can pre-order the book before it is available in January.
PURPLE SONGS CAN FLY - Segment Begins At The 9:40 Mark
Anita Kruse, Founder & Executive Director of Purple Songs Can Fly made a proposal to Carol Herron, the Director of the Arts in Medicine Program, in December of 2004, and they began the process of creating a unique experience for the children being treated at Texas Children's Cancer and Hematology Centers and their siblings. Purple Songs Can Fly was founded, and I began working with the first child on March 21, 2006. The children’s songs are copied on purple CDs and flown by participating passengers, pilots and astronauts to places on earth and into space. I was joined by Anita and Carol along with Christian Spear, a cancer survivor and now a Fellow at Purple Songs Can Fly and Stephen Makia, a cancer survivor and one of the first to record a song for PSCF. Tas Cru also called in to add his impressions of the organization and his time there in July.

Jeff Dale was born and raised on the south side of Chicago and was taught how to play the blues by two itinerant blues musicians from the west side when he was 13 years old. He ended up in Southern California, recording and playing until 1988 when he disappeared. He is back now with his band, the South Woodlawners and their new album is entitled Good Music.
Jeff and I discussed his remarkable career and the legends he met and played alongside and his reaction to the fan reaction to his new music.

From San Diego, I spoke with Missy Andersen, who likens her musical approach to Soul dipped in Blues. As a teenager, she opened on tour for Cissy Houston and has not looked back since. Her second solo album is entitled In The Momentand Missy and I will explored her journey and where she is heading. She is a wonderful woman with an incredible talent and I was thrilled to present her on The Couch.

His album Gotta Keep Rollin' is his fourth album and with talent like Eddie Shaw, John Primer, Chris James, Patrick Ryynn and more performing behind him, you know the music is red-hot. I spoke with Rob about his finding the blues early on and and his time with Sam Lay and his partnership with Chris and Patrick over the years. We also talked about where he is heading in 2014 and beyond.

IN LAYMAN TERMS - Segment Begins At The 13:15 Mark
In Layman Terms is Cole Layman, 17, and Logan Layman, 14. They have a passion for the blues and write original, foot-stomping music. I met them in Memphis at the 2013 IBC and was immediately taken with their talent and maturity and LOVE of the Blues. Their new EP's entitled It's The Blues and we sat together and talked about how they have gotten to where they are today. They've both been on the show a the IBC and during the wrap-up show, but this made them official "Couch Kids".
JORDAN PATTERSON - Segment Begins At The 48:32 Mark
Jordan Patterson released his debut album, Give Me A Chance, in 1996 and was was an immediate hit in the Blues world, performing at festivals and clubs worldwide. Then one day, he just stopped. For the last 10 years he has done tour management, and concert& event promotion for Britney Spears and others and worked for House Of Blues Concerts Canada.
He is back making music and he has released an EP entitled The Back On Track Recording Project in advance of the full-length album this winter. Jordan joined me and we discussed his lead up to the first album, why he stopped while he was on top, what it was like working in the background and what brought him back to his music. So much to discuss with Jordan... a great guest who will be back when the full-length album is ready.
ETTA BRITT - Segment Begins At The 1:39:21 Mark
Etta Britt began as a country singer in a group called Dave & Sugar until she was asked why she was singing country and being told she was an R&B singer and should listen to some Delbert McClinton. Delbert appeared on her 2012 release Out Of The Shadows and after being asked to perform on Delbert's Sandy Beaches Cruise, Etta decided to record Etta Does Delbert, an album of Delbert's songs. We talked about her career, her relationship with Delbert and so much more with this talented lady.

Robin Banks originally Sat On The Couch back in June of 2012 and on this night she returned with her great new album, Modern Classic. We talked about what she had been up to the last two years and where she hopes to be in the next two years, while we played selected cuts from the album, a mix of Blues, Jazz, R&B and Reggae sounds that will always keep your ears happy. She also told us about the ghost in the studio...and that happened after we had ended the live feed, so you only get that story on the podcast!
